No1. SURVIVAL
S = Size up your situation.
(Your Physical & Emotional condition, Equipment & Surroundings)

U= Use all your senses.
(Undue haste makes waste)

R = Remember where you are, look around get your bearings.
(Where are the shadows falling, where is the sun or stars in relation to your journey)

V = Vanquish fear & panic.
(Take 3 long slow breaths, count to 10 & calm yourself down)

I = Improvise.
(Your survival kit should be multi functional, because your environment certainly is)

V = Value Living.
(Make a decision to live; your state of mind really matters out there)

A = Act like the natives.
(By this I mean look for animal tracks they may lead to water, and they certainly know where to find shelter)

L = Live by your wits.
(But in the mean time learn a few basic survival skills)

No2.  SURVIVAL KITS When putting your survival kit together, select items you can use for more than one purpose.. Do not duplicate items, as this increases your kit's size and weight.

  • Signaling items.
  • Food procurement items.
  • Shelter items.
  • A few suggestions of these items are--

No3.  A RULE OF 3.

This is your favourite number in a survival situation, as it is roughly the amount of time you have left, to live, without the list below.

  • 3 Minutes without oxygen.
  • 3 Hours without adequate shelter.
  • 3 Days without water.
  • 3 Weeks without food.

Someone asked me the other day. "After doing the trip, can I go out for a few days & live off the land"? My answer to this question is simple, If you're going to have a relationship with mother nature, she can be a bitch. So ALWAYS use protection. By this I mean don't go out into the mountains with nothing but a knife, take a tent & all the other gear you may need to stay alive. This way you can live in your tent comfortably & practice your new skills knowing that if everything turns to custard, you still have protection. Pete

Well we've decided to take the plunge and start a WILD SHOP, where you can buy survival equipment used & recommended by me, you can even buy gear before your trip and use it as we go along, this gives you a feel for the equipment and it's great practise.

Check it out, we're now at No1 on Trip Advisor. A BIG THANK YOU to all our clients for your fedback, it's your enjoyment that keeps us going for gold. Pete

WOW! What a trip, everything went as planned, we flew, we hovered, we exited. It was a slightly overcast day as Jemma (Tourism NZ), Laura (Smart Tourism), Steve (The Rees), Evan (St Moritz) & myself, well someone had to lead the way out. We flew by chopper courtesy of Heli Tours, deep into the mountains of Aotearoa, Paul our pilot chose a suitable area to hover & we took the opportunity to exit the chopper, no landing here. Once we were safely away from the chopper, we watched as it left & then in the deafening silence it hit us, we're alone in the middle of nowhere. This where the real fun begins, finding our way home without a map & compass was the first thing, next was making a water filter & staying hydrated. Food was also on our minds, especially for Evan as he was the first to try a wild food. Everyone got to eat the natural vegetables & Steve was a little excited on seeing the wild goats, & planing on returning on a hunting trip one day, seeing as it would take a little more skill & time to catch a goat, than our team had.

Welcome to our new website.  Have a look around then please come back and tell us what you think - we'd love to hear from you.

    Introducing people to the wilderness in a way that's different, letting them explore & find out how simple it is to play survival games & learn new tricks that they can take home with them, is a passion of mine. I believe everyone has it in them to become a survivalist.
